Building Whit’s Guitar

This is a step-by-step building log for the guitar I’m building for my old pal Whit. This site is built in WordPress, so all the posts are in reverse chrono order. It’s linear, but goes in the wrong direction for a tutorial. Starting at the ending may be a cute idea in the hands of David Wilcox, but it’s probably a lousy way of building a guitar. To get this going from the beginning, I’ll be posting links below for each chapter in the order in which they are being written. The other good feature of this is that the header photo, not some random glue squeeze out photo, will match the article. The blog started off in late August, 2012 with a note about why this guitar is being built. That post is here: Starting Whit’s guitar, again. The second post was a story about the style of guitar being built: the Orchestra Model (What’s an OM?) originated by C.F. Martin & Co.

The Building Log, in order:

  1. Let’s start building Whit’s guitar
  2. Joining the back
  3. Bending the sides
  4. Thinning the top and making the rosette
  5. Making the rims, part one: sides, neck block and tail block
  6. Making the rims, part two: solid linings and a soundport
